Why stay at the House of Gods Hotel?
The House of Gods Hotel is one of our best hotels in Edinburgh. It offers several assets that make it an ideal base for a two-person stay in the Scottish capital:
- Just a stone’s throw from the Royal Mile, it’s within easy reach of Old Town’s main attractions.
- Its warm atmosphere, all red velvet, dark wood and subdued lighting, is reminiscent of a nightclub.
- Its lively bar, where you can enjoy delicious cocktails on thick leather sofas.

Is the House of Gods Hotel worth it? Our review
Spending a night at the House of Gods Hotel is, in our opinion, a unique experience. We loved its bewitching atmosphere and nightclub decor, all crimson velvet and subdued lighting. The attentive staff fit in perfectly with thisastonishing ambience. We recommend the superior rooms if you plan to stay more than one night. We liked the Orient-Express feel of the“cabins“, but they are a little cramped.

Decoration and atmosphere
The decor is luxurious and sophisticated. Thick velvets and subdued red lighting create a warm, hushed atmosphere, perfect for a relaxing evening. Disco balls add a festive touch reminiscent of private clubs and trendy parties.

The hotel staff is truly lovely, ready to meet guests’ needs. Every detail is carefully thought out to create an enchanting experience. We found the location ideal for a romantic getaway.
The room
The atmosphere in our room (we had chosen a Cabin), was quite baroque. Indeed, it was as large as a train or ship cabin, entirely upholstered in wood panelling. The light could be adjusted to red to create an even more intimate atmosphere.

We found several amenities in the room, such as a TV hidden in a mirror and a minibar. The printed velvets and woodwork under the red light were reminiscent of charming 19th-century establishments.

The bathroom
The bathroom, too, was rather cramped. All in marble, with art deco fittings, it was nonetheless very luxurious. The shower opened onto this small space, separated only by a curtain.

We were provided with Anyah brand hygiene products. There were no bathrobes or slippers.

The breakfast
We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel, as we were in too much of a hurry to discover Edinburgh. We did, however, notice that it was served in our room in the form of a breakfast basket.
Equipment and common areas
The common areas at the House of Gods Hotel are small. The hotel reception is opposite the bar. It resembles a nightclub checkroom. This is the entrance to the rooms. There is a nightclub in the hotel, but rest assured, the rooms are very well soundproofed.

The restoration
The hotel has a cocktail bar, with a subdued atmosphere, like that of the rooms.
History
The House of Gods Hotel was founded by the Baxter brothers in 2019. The bold concept blends maximalist luxury and rock spirit. Building on their success, they opened a second establishment in Glasgow in 2024.
