Visit Edinburgh Castle<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Scotland\/Edinburgh\/Edinburgh-castle\/i-h3HB2mt\/0\/M8RCpx59b3NThwQnLxTj4DSPkxRpVV3K6vg359528\/L\/Edinburgh_castle_Edinburgh_Edinburgh_Scotland_IMG_8289-L.jpg\" alt=\"Edinburgh Castle - Outside view\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why visit?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Situated on Castle Rock, an extinct volcano overlooking the Edinburgh <em>skyline<\/em>, the castle rises over 120 meters above the city. We were impressed by the <strong>Great Hall<\/strong>, with its carved woodwork and impressive ceilings. You can also admire the <strong>Honours of Scotland<\/strong>, the jewels of the Scottish Crown. Walk the Royal Mile<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Scotland\/Edinburgh\/Royal-Mile\/i-SKSZch8\/0\/LbCggMRXrFtrQvVpPGxxdtGmtCJDnvqQ284ZchFmD\/L\/edinburgh_royal_mile-east-L.jpg\" alt=\"Royal Mile - General view\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why visit?<\/h3>\n\n<p>The Royal Mile is the main thoroughfare linking Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyrood House, through <strong>Old Town<\/strong>. We loved the <em>closes<\/em>, narrow passages that weave their way under buildings and open onto hidden courtyards. In front of <strong>The World&#8217;s End<\/strong> Pub, don&#8217;t miss the traces between the cobblestones of the city&#8217;s former main entrance. We were impressed by its collections spread over <strong>6 floors<\/strong>, including the <strong>Tower<\/strong> devoted to Scottish history. You can admire the <strong>Grand Gallery<\/strong> and the emblematic<strong>Millennium Clock<\/strong>, an elaborate mechanism that sums up the most significant aspects of the 20th century. The museum is also home to <strong>the famous &#8220;Dolly&#8221; sheep<\/strong>, and offers a wide range of fun and scientific activities. Climb Arthur&#8217;s Seat<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Scotland\/Edinburgh\/Arthurs-Seat\/i-PdJQ9ps\/0\/KR2rGGfwCncfqzHvPmQGF9JtsLwDTQts9QcLNMwJt\/L\/arthur-seat-view-L.jpg\" alt=\"Arthur's Seat - Panoramic view\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why visit?<\/h3>\n\n<p>Located in <strong>Holyrood Parc<\/strong>, to the east of Edinburgh&#8217;s historic center, Arthur&#8217;s Seat rises to <strong>251m<\/strong> above sea level. For us, it&#8217;s an absolute <em>must-see<\/em>. You can admire the city from above and see the sea in the distance from this extinct volcano, formed some 340 million years ago. The architecture combines Gothic and Baroque elements. The rooms inside are sumptuously decorated. We particularly enjoyed the <strong>grand staircase<\/strong> and portrait gallery. Don&#8217;t miss the <strong>apartments of Mary<\/strong>, Queen of Scots. They provide an opportunity to immerse yourself in her tragic and intriguing story.
