We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to get to Inverness: quick answer<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To reach Inverness, your main arrival points are :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Inverness Airport<\/strong>, 15 minutes from the city center, served by domestic flights (from London, Manchester, Dublin&#8230;) and a few international connections via stopovers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inverness station<\/strong>, well connected to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen or London (via the Caledonian Sleeper night train).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Inverness bus station<\/strong>, centrally located, with regular long-distance bus services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>There are no ferries to Inverness<\/strong>, as the city is not served by a passenger shipping service. The most frequent airlines are British Airways, KLM and Aer Lingus. Tickets can be booked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>.   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the best rates, book in advance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Scotland\/Inverness\/Inverness-Pratique\/i-4WS3sdq\/0\/L33NKWND7kshHxNx87B2KJDfSQKrJgbx4ZNvB4bJ7\/L\/railway-station-inverness-L.jpg\" alt=\"Inverness station\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Inverness station<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From London<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It&#8217;s also possible to reach Inverness from London by train, but the journey takes around 8 hours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>Caledonian Sleeper<\/strong> night train can be an interesting alternative: you leave London in the evening and arrive in Inverness in the morning, without losing a day&#8217;s sightseeing. Book your ticket <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sleeper.scot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">here<\/a>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Option 3: by car<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hiring a car to get to Inverness is particularly relevant if you then want to visit the region, including Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye or the North Coast 500.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Common routes<\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>From Edinburgh:<\/strong> approx. 3h30 on the A9.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>From Glasgow:<\/strong> also around 3h30, with the option of passing through Loch Lomond and Glencoe for a more spectacular route.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>From Aberdeen:<\/strong> approx. 2h30 through the Cairngorms National Park.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Road conditions are generally good, but you need to be careful on minor roads (single tracks, animals&#8230;). This is the most economical solution, but also the slowest. Scotland:<\/strong> choose a flight with a stopover in Inverness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For a broader itinerary including Edinburgh or Glasgow:<\/strong> land in one of these two cities, then reach Inverness by train, bus or car.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>For a cross-Scotland trip:<\/strong> consider arriving in Edinburgh and departing from Inverness (or vice versa), renting a car or combining human-sized city, easy to explore on foot, but several transport options are available to get around more quickly or reach places a little further afield.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>On foot or by bike: ideal for the city center.<\/strong>  The main attractions (castle, cathedral, museums, Ness quays, etc.) are grouped together in a small area. For cycling enthusiasts, a number of cycle paths run along the river, providing access to residential areas and nearby sites such as the Caledonian Canal. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>By bus: to outlying districts. <\/strong>The city bus network is operated mainly by <strong>Stagecoach Highlands<\/strong>. It links the city&#8217;s various districts, shopping centers (such as Inverness Retail Park) and the airport. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>By cab:<\/strong> available but few in number. Cabs can be found at the ranks near the station or Eastgate shopping center.
